Be yourself!!

“To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you
something else is the greatest accomplishment.”
~Ralph Waldo Emerson

So I have gotten a lot of mixed reactions to my shaved head. Ok buzzed for all you pc people…LOL
It’s been interesting to watch people look at me. Some are quiet and don’t say anything, while others ask why I did it. This  is what I tell them.

I’m an artist and my work is about continuing the conversation on body image, media’s distortion of beauty and self confidence. Our hair holds such symbolism of our physical beauty. The media makes it seem negative if a woman shaves her head or cuts her hair short. By removing my hair I am saying that our hair, my hair, doesn’t define me. I am beautiful with long hair, short hair or no hair. I am beautiful as an overweight woman with a big nose and crossed eyes. I am beautiful as me. I am tired of seeing one idea of beauty perpetuated in the   media. I want this to stop. I am doing this for every man or women who feel they need to conform to the latest fad or hair style or the newest fashion to ‘fit’ in or be accepted. Every woman who feels they need to lay in a tanning bed to impress a guy. The only person you need to impress is yourself. Be the real you. Find the authentic, natural, beautiful you. For you!

  1. I buzzed my hair when I was 19, after months of bleaching and dying it every colour under the sun. I feel like it was really easy for me to do, because I was so young, and I had already spent time doing crazy things with my hair, and I felt pretty secure about how I looked. It was fun, but I would never do it again!

Anyway, my point is, you are so brave for doing this, congratulations! It’s such a huge change, and a departure from what is considered normal for a woman, and that really freaks some people out. I hope you’re having fun with your fuzzy head… you look adorable 🙂

The only thing is… when it grows in to about 1-2 inches in length, you’re gonna get some really wicked bed-head 😉

    • Awww thank you so much Bea. Yea I do like it a lot right now, but am afraid to grow it out now. LOL At least I think that is why I keep getting it buzzed. That and I am still working out the reasons for buzzing it in the first place. I mean I know why, but just working it out in my head is definitely another matter. LOL
      Have a great week!
